Our undervalued superpower against the next four years: Non-participation.

Last edited Thu Jan 9, 2025, 07:43 PM - Edit history (1)

During the next four years, I plan to do the following:

1)Ignore trump's trolling.
His words are NEVER worth our attention though they dominate every news cycle, and they often distract us from his actions. Trolling is his power. It's how he controls us. What his followers love about him is OUR reaction to his trolling.

It’s a power WE GIVE HIM by paying constant attention to everything that comes out of his mouth.
.
I will inform myself only about his actions, not his words. As much as possible, I will not support his insatiable need for the attention he gets by trolling us.

2) I won’t enrich the oligarchs.
I’ve sworn off Amazon, which was hard for me, but I think worthwhile. I already avoid social media (though if I didn't I'd certainly join Bluesky), and I’ve cancelled subscriptions to the mainstream media. Some here still subscribe to outlets like the Times and WP, and they bring the important stories here. I’m grateful to them. This way the articles get one click instead of dozens.

3)I'll participate as little as possible in trump's economy.
I had planned to spruce up my home this year. The planned paint job and cabinet re-finish, and everything else, will now wait for 4 years. I’ll repair rather than replace my clothing. I won't buy non-food and non-fuel items unless absolutely necessary. If I travel, it won’t be domestic and I won’t use domestic carriers.

I imagine this post will attract comments from people telling me why they won’t do any of these things. I’m not asking anyone to.

But I have power, and I’m going to wield it.

The oligarchs are only oligarchs because of the money we spend on their products and services.
The only way to stop them is to stop giving them our money.

The legacy media is only legacy media because we read it, and they have failed us.
The only way to escape their bias and propaganda is to stop giving them the revenue they gain from our eyes and our clicks. I won’t read them. I won’t give them clicks.

Trump’s support comes only from our reactions to his outrageous behavior.
The only way to weaken him is to pay attention solely to his actions and not to his words.

We have power.

I’m going to use my power.

And that's why we shouldn't give minimum wage workers pay increases?

You know... in four years I could probably put together a nice looking savings account. 🤔

I'm in favor of everyone doing what they feel is best, but I'm not changing the way I live or what I buy.

To each their own.

this is especially true when it comes to climate change and tryng to make changes in dealing with it.

Not reacting to everything he says is important. The Greenland stuff is getting too much attention. This is also true when it comes to random right wingers. Don't waste time tryng to debate and convince people.
