Those were the words spoken by former UN Ambassador Andrew Young and friend of Jimmy Carter at his funeral.
His spirit lives on.
In my opinion, Jimmy Carter should be the example for the Democratic Party going forward. He was progressive in many ways but he was not married to any ideology. He supported a lot of conservative legislative policies, such as de-regulation of airlines and the appointment of Paul Volcker to help him fight inflation. He never wavered from his principles. He believed that human rights were what made America great and that we were here to help our fellow man.
The Democratic Party might be wise to return to the blueprint of Jimmy Carter as we fight to re-build the Party after the last election?

(764 posts)... from grandson Jason Carter's previous eulogy, which was eloquent and moving. Both tributes were really something. I'm glad I tuned in soon enough to hear them.

(113,024 posts)Jason, his grandson, who did an excellent job, attributed the quote to Andrew Young, or so I thought.

(764 posts)Jason said, "As Andy Young told me ..." (... and I missed that when I was listening.)
And Rev Young said, "As Jason said ..." (... which I did catch b/c of how Jason's eulogy touched me.)
Apparently I was a little confused, but this really epitomizes Jimmy Carter's legacy, and both Rev Young and Jason brought tears of gratitude. Thanks for reminding us of this really great quote, one of the best from today!
