I can see the glow from the front of my building.
Random fires starting across the Valley eating up valuable resources and water. 🧐 But hey, what do I know.

(32,841 posts)The burned areas so far, and the ones under threat, have been largely democrat voting neighborhoods.

(8,918 posts)Plus, the winds have died down significantly - so this particular outburst seems VERY suspicious.

(8,918 posts)The winds were blowing West toward the Pacific. This fire was set.

(907 posts)Winds have been way down so far tonight. That's not to say they may not strike back up, but last I saw the winds were about 12 miles an hour.
My folks are about a mile or two outside the evacuation zone the Runyon Canyon blaze, but keeping a close eye on the situation.
I'm just outside the warning zone. I looked outside and saw that the glow has disappeared from the sky, so hopefully, it's under control.

(924 posts)They say that arsonists most of the time suffered from child abuse and want to vent their angry about it.

(17,454 posts)for a pile-on fire, but it does seem like the origins have to do with the historic winds.
As I recall, when multiple fires like this have occurred, there have been a couple arsonists who piled on.

(10,786 posts)no rainfall since spring; dried-out vegetation; dry off-shore winds - California can have horrific fires without arsonists: one of the big ones in the Bay Area was caused by a rare lightning storm. The terrain doesn't help, either.

(9,949 posts)The evacuation area ended a little over 2 blocks to the west of me at the 101.
Was doing the NYT crossword when I smelled smoke and looked out my bedroom window to see the hill above Runyon on fire.
Then saw the helicopters lining up, waiting to take turns to dump water from Lake Hollywood.
Packed up my car and my parking is on the backside of the building. The street was bumper to bumper. I was thinking if they move that evacuation zone to include our neighborhood I'm stuck. I may have to walk out of here down to Hollywood, at night, carrying crap.
Talk about stress. I walked out to check the street and it was finally clear. Started to feel relieved.
Glad to see they let some fire companies leave because they have enough resources and made good progress.
Don't know if I'll sleep tonight.

(53,039 posts)@LosAngeles_Scan account on Twitter gave the exact address and I googled it. Less than a mile from where someone I knew lived, years ago. He and his wife are both gone now and their kids sold the house. Part of which had been built nearly a century ago. Not sure which direction the Studio City fire is burning,
