Donald Trump's deep roots in Palm Beach could become more evident throughout his presidency.
Through a series of exclusive interviews with sources close to Trump and his family, PEOPLE learned that the incoming president may desire to conduct his upcoming official duties from his Palm Beach home, Mar-a-Lago, and spend less time in Washington, D.C.
"I think Trump will try to run the nation from Mar-a-Lago. He has always wanted to do that," a political source tells PEOPLE, adding, "He is blissfully happy in Palm Beach."
Long before Trump purchased the 1920s-era Mar-a-Lago estate, it was envisioned as a space that could become a "Winter White House" for a future president.

That way he can charge guests for staying there which he can't do at the Whitehouse

(60,803 posts)Trump has indicated he thinks the WH is a dump.
And DC is not a friendly place for him.
MAL offers him constant adoration and his flunkies and hangers on can stay close to him.
He can golf, have affairs, etc with no one noticing or caring.
He loves the idea of people crawling and groveling to him at MAL.
Yes he can make money off of the deal.
All upgrades, improvements will be charged to the US taxpayer.
And he will force all visitors to eat and dine at MAL.

(1,604 posts)It's bad enough that he enriched himself in taking bribes and payoffs throughout the first term and charged us for so many costs that he should have paid for. That was probably his biggest achievement while in office, actually.
Why was there no enforcement of the Emoluments Laws - or are there no such things??
Why can't we rent out OUR apparently now-un-needed WH and at least begin to recoup a bit?

(44,886 posts)Part of me would rather him stay there than defiling the White House again. Probably even easier for him to host questionable guests and compromise national security there, though. Plus, he gets a standing ovation every time he shows up in the dining room.
