Per news reports asking the evacuees. The firefighters should have told them to leave their keys.

Serious question: How would this help/ work? If each driver left keys in the car, is there enough manpower to fight the fire and also move each car as needed? How far and where would each car have to be moved so that it would no longer be an obstruction to firefighters? My roommate, who is more familiar with this part of California than I am, said that this road where the cars were left behind is the only road in and out.

A Fire captain was interviewed earlier today on local news and said that is what he/they instruct people to do.
So there may be some people that are there to help with logistics or firefighters that need a break but can move cars in the meantime?
I don't know.

Rustic Canyon where I lived with my husband from 1985 until we moved from California in 1988. Lots of eucalyptus trees in the area will go up fast. What a disaster.

Just checked the map and the street where we lived is part of the mandatory evacuation order.
