Yesterday I jumped the gun a little and had to delete the thread I started about President Biden signing the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act. I just got an e-mail from the NEA and this is part of what it says:
President Joe Biden today signed into law the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R.82), a landmark win for working families. The bipartisan legislation, passed decisively last month by Congress, affects millions of people who receive pensions from their time as teachers, firefighters, police officers and other public service jobs. Public service workers will now see a boost in their Social Security payments because the Social Security Fairness Act repeals the punitive and discriminatory Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws.
It was signed this afternoon. I know two people who will receive a few hundred extra bucks a month, which can go a long way towards healthcare expenses or just keeping up with inflation. On a rather sad note, Sherrod Brown was instrumental in this passing. Unfortunately, Ohio did not see fit to reward him with reelection.
