(262 posts)It is less than an 8 minute video of Bernie explaining that Musk is an unelected billionaire oligarch and the new Trump Regime will be for cutting taxes on billionaires and large corporations, and not helping working people and the middle class.

(1,944 posts)and the title and "worth listening" was enough. The guy asking for a summary is like a student reading cliff notes because they don't want to take time to read the novel.
Thanks for sharing this

(88,143 posts)Fact.
Some of us are actually hearing impaired and a synopsis would be helpful. The written word makes it easier for us.
I also assume it is his Millionaire/Billionaire speech and I have heard it before. If it was something different, then I would like to know and would love to know what he is going to do about it as a sitting Senator.
It is time for us to come together,
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you and yours, MadameButterfly.
MadameButterfly
(1,944 posts)It's about a synopsis not communicating the real content of the speech. So here is a link with the full transcript which solves my problem and yours at the same time.
You have made an assumption about the speech. However, I do think this speech is different so if you would like to know I am happy to share it with you.
sheshe2
(88,143 posts)That was very different from his usual speeches and by gawd he was spot on. I don't understand why it is so difficult for people to actually post a transcript, or at the very least post a synopsis.
This was good.

In any case, within the House of Representatives, the Republican House and the Democratic Senate, there was a widespread agreement on this resolution, and it was just about ready to be passed. In fact, the Republicans posted it on their website. We were ready to go.
But then, out of nowhere, the wealthiest man in the world, Elon Musk, began tweeting his opposition to this legislation. In fact, he was very blunt about it. He told Republicans that if they voted for this proposal, which they had already agreed to do, he would take out his wallet and spend as much money as it took to defeat them in primaries and drive them out of office.
snip/
The wealthiest person in the world, who spent at least $277 million to elect Donald Trump and a republican Congress, has now claimed complete ownership of that party. And what hes saying is, hey Republicans, forget your constituents. Forget your constitutional responsibilities. If you dont do what I, Elon Musk, want you to do, youre out of office. And I have the money to do just that.
My friends, what we are looking at here has nothing to do with democracy.
What we are looking at here is oligarchy.
MadameButterfly
(1,944 posts)a really good print synopsis

(88,143 posts)Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
MadameButterfly
(1,944 posts)and a synopsis misses the point. If you can't take the time to listen you'll be like the poster below who says "Nothing I didn't know". It's not that the fact are new. It's how he makes his case. He explains it so anyone can get it, not just us political junkies.
Older than Biden and Trump who are both quickly losing their ability to speak effectively, Bernie is stronger than ever.
sheshe2
(88,143 posts)President Biden is one of the best in my lifetime. His accomplishments for all Americans are remarkable. A true leader.
Please stop!
MadameButterfly
(1,944 posts)I'm not talking about the quality of Biden's presidency or his character which are the opposite of Trump. Biden is losing his speaking ability, a skill which is necessary to stay in politics especially at election time.
Trump on the other hand is going into dementia which is much more dangerous, will exaggerate his already dangerous malignant narcissism.
My point is that Bernie has neither problem. No, I'm not suggesting he should run for president again.
My Dad was losing his speaking ability for years and that does not negate the power of his whole amazing career or his basic decency right up to the end. So please stop conflating obvious observations about speaking skills late in life with a man's life accomplishments.

(2,338 posts)He has been right about (almost) everything, and he communicates it well.
Lets see if the first thing Trump tries to do when he gets into office is pass his tax cuts for the wealthy, because they really need it.

(1,944 posts)It's just the first time since that ruling that we had a weak/immoral enough president to completely succumb to the oligarchs.

(2,593 posts)There are more than a few people who think she still, supports you. Have you parted ways?
paleotn
(19,529 posts)She doesn't believe in all that Bernie stuff. She doesn't believe in much of anything other than Tulsi Gabbard. If she can gain advantage by aligning with Sanders or Trump, opposite magnetic poles, she'll do exactly that. Politics is filled with people just like her. Political P words.
Sanders and I may diverge on policy from time to time, but I never have to worry about where his heart is. He means it. He's damn consistent. Consistency you don't find very often in politics. I appreciate that and agree with him more times than not.
MadameButterfly
(1,944 posts)a loyal Democrat by comparison.
Bernie's defense of her 5 - 8 years ago when she supported the Democratic party against Trump is not relevent given her behavior since.
She supported Bernie in 2016 but that doesn't mean he is responsible for her going forward.
Hey, I supported Tulsi in 2016. Based on what she said then. Now? Hell no.
Let it go.

(19,529 posts)Elmo figures he bought a presidency. He thinks he can buy a Congress too. Or at least use his money to threaten them with losing their seats if they don't bend to his will. And all this wasn't in hushed conversations in back rooms like the old days. It was blatantly on twitter for all to see. Let that little factoid sink in.
I'll say it once again.....there's a seething rage in our populace against the monied class. A righteous rage after decades of being screwed. Enough rage to turn a murderer into a hero recently. THAT is our weapon against what Elmo is up to, if we'd only pick it up and use it.
MadameButterfly
(1,944 posts)A leader who can spell it out and won't be cowed, who always knew the moneyed class was the problem. He has always chamioned working class and appealed to those angry disaffected people who move back and forth between Bernie and Trump. Murder isn't the solution but language like political "revolution" might make more and more sense.
