Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA plea to Du'ers. While we are having all kinds of fun with the sick,
psychotic relationship between egoloon and TRAITOR**, please pause to consider that "elonia", "donia" , and signs about TRAITOR** being "first lady" to the illegal S. A. immigrant are, in fact, sexist and insulting to women, as though being a woman is somehow of less value.
Now, I realize that DU is not the only place where this is happening, but, please, stop and think before you repost such things.
Thanks in advance.

(160,686 posts)I also detest the reference to BALLS as some indicator of courage - sooooo fucking sexist

(60,651 posts)I speak out in the most graphic and gobsmacking ways on behalf of women almost every day here.
I don't use the terms you mention, but I am not offended in the least by them.
And I don't see why calling him First Lady is offensive.
He might as well occupy that role with his constant side by side presence.
We are in the fight of our lives to save our democracy, freedom, and the lives of Americans.
I am in it to win it.
If a few feathers get ruffled so be it.
We didn't win WWII by acting like we were drinking tea with the church pastor.
And with all due respect I am getting tired of the lectures about how to think, act, feel.
I am furious, heart broken, and scared like everyone else.
We need some breathing room for god's sake.
Think. Again.

(60,651 posts)Our country will soon be ruled by a bona fide fascist crime syndicate.
People here are scared, terrified, facing many possible losses and dangers.
Grieving the loss of freedom and our democracy.
Worried about our children and grandchildren too.
Parsing words in meaningless ways seems counter productive to me.
First Lady, First Gentleman, seems the same thing to me and an obscure minor point
when we are in the fight for our lives and way of life.
I come from a military family.
You keep your eye on the ball and achieve your mission.
Not squabbling about minutia and splitting hairs.
We are in it to win it. Not horse around.
As I said, I am one of the most fierce advocates for women on this forum.
I don't need lectures on how to fight the good fight.
I don't need lessons on how to act if someday I am having tea with the King
and need to watch every word to make sure I follow palace protocol.

(396 posts)I try to avoid sophmoric jokes and digression. Some that I see are funny....BUT! Nothing about what is going on is funny. We shouldn't get distracted from the serious nature. We need our attention to be on the reality - as painful as it is.

(51,717 posts)... future that we are so close to and yet so far from.
It is not "word policing" to request avoiding sexist terminology. It's proactive. It's asking writers to think before pressing Post.
After all, you don't say "that's so gay" as a negative because there might be word police lurking around, right? You don't say that because you do want a progressive unprejudiced non-sexist caring thoughtful future.
No need to look over your shoulder.
We all need some breathing room. Sexist remarks deny that breathing room to others.
You don't see why calling him First Lady is offensive? It is intended as a insult to Musk, of course. It is also intended to be humorous. Why is calling someone a lady an insult and why would that be humorous?
With all due respect, aren't you lecturing the OP about how to think, act, feel with your post?

(1,231 posts)Better we simply focus on the facts.
Elon Musk torpedoed a spending bill based on absolute malarkey.
Either Mr. Musk is stupid
Lazy
Or deliberately lying
I dont know which one it is.
Could be a combo.
I do know the original bill Mr. Musk torpedoed had serious restrictions on Chinas use of our (Americans invented/ patents) technologies.
It looks like more people should be asking representative Rosa de Laurios questions. Did Mr. Musk kill the deal to protect his Chinese facility (producing 50% of Teslas) ?
Representative DeLaurio wrote the following:
It is particularly disturbing that Musk may have sought to upend this critical negotiated agreement to remove a bipartisan provision regulating U.S. investments in China in order to protect his wallet and the Chinese Communist Party at the expense of American workers, innovators, and businesses.

That is the important question.
Mr. Musk holding the GOPs dear leaders puppet strings is a better way to describe that weird situation.

The Trump/Musk twins are motivated by greed, power, control of others, sexual domination and abuse.
Defending against them is asymmetric warfare.

(4,953 posts)We all know Musk and Trump aren't having an affair, so it's obvious sarcasm, not like the Buchanan-King memes, such as memes were in the 1850s.
The -ania is an allusion to Trump's wife. Why isn't she being the first lady? While I don't think very highly of her, that's completely on him.
So Trump is such an asshole his wife isn't really speaking to him and he's spending all of his time with this dude.
It's not black and white, and your caution is well-intended and should be well-considered.

(38,713 posts)we merely point out that there's a version of masculinity, which appears to be growing, that embraces the worst of human attributes & glorifies them. The reverse of that is to shame & humiliate what are traditionally considered feminine traits. And women aren't immune to these ways of thinking either but I do think you will find women who think this way are generally aligned with these types of men.
