Well, it's been a whirlwind. You all know about the four year trek through crap my wife and I had to endure. I think it's time to update our DU friend now that we're over six months back to see how we're doing since taking the plunge.
1: My wife has the dream of every mainland Chinese woman (and before I get any BS about stereotypes, this one is true. No, and I mean no, Chinese woman wants to raise their children in someone else's home) and when I pick her up from work, she has a big ear-to-ear grin saying "I'm going to MY home." Yes, we bought our home here in New Castle, PA. 3 bdr, 2 bath, 1900squ ft on .5 acres of land. The attic will be turned into a master suite, the basement into my library and office.
2: Next month, I will surprise her with a four legged barking fur person. . .either a pug or a king charlie. I'm putting off my either Newfie or Berner, and the protecting German Shepherd for a while. So we'll need to fence in our backyard as soon as it gets warm.
3: She's getting her PA driver's license, so I will need to get a second car soon. She gets the small one we have now and I get MY car, since she will never drive it because the car I want scares her.
4: I lost my teaching career, but am studying for my EA certification and working with my father to take over his $250K a year tax and accounting practice as soon as I have the experience and pass the EA exam.
5: As I write this, my wife is going through her swag from her office Christmas Party. She's loving winter now, but after next week, when we here in the NE enter what we called in Upstate NY "ten weeks of suck," she will probably ask me "we left Thailand for this?"
6: She found Chinese food markets in Pittsburgh she is so happy with as well as three REAL restaurants where the food is "just like home." She can even call and make the reservations in Chinese.
7: She saw Niagara Falls and went to Canada. Three days of her in complete awe after me talking up my hometown for the better part of six years. She wants to do the Maid of the Mist every time we go.
8: We are doing her equivalency of her Chinese teaching license to see if PA won't be dicks to her and accept hers even though that didn't accept my Arizona teaching license. IF she passes, her teaching cert will be from PK-3.
So, knock wood, things have been going well. We are still trying to have a child, but I'm not comfortable with it now because not everything is settled and I don't want to bring a child into the world until everything is settled. This is my level 2 autism talking. Chaos is not something I like, even if it's 99% calm. Before, she wasn't ready to a mother. Now, I'm not ready to bring a child in until everything is set.

(4,986 posts)I had wondered how you all were doing. Im glad things are moving forward. Hopefully your lives will settle down enough that you can both breathe and decide about children in a relatively relaxed atmosphere. Yeah, I know life in the US is going to be a bit tense for the near future. Im wishing you and your wife a happy new year.
