I've used that headline many times over the years. And each time I do, it turns out that they're bigger dicks than they were the previous time I used it.
Now that they are on the verge of holding all the levers of power, (the presidency, both houses of congress, and the SCOTUS),, they no longer need to disguise their ideology/beliefs/plans. Actually, I'm surprised they put their blueprint for America in writing in the document they call Project 2025. They've told us right up front that they want to take us back, not a few decades, but a few centuries.
Women are property. White Christians (with the proper beliefs) are the Master Race. Kindness, service and charity are practiced by fools. And those fools are there to obey and serve the "Chosen Few." -- That's pretty much the philosophy of today's Republican Party.
Assuming they don't destroy the planet in the near future, and assuming Mother Nature doesn't do it for them,, is their a future in which humanity will evolve beyond our current, primitive state? One can only hope so.
But in the near future, the barbarians will be running things. And I fear that it's going to get far uglier than many of us are currently expecting.
So back to that original question. Why are Republicans such dicks? Do they have different genes than the rest of us? Does cruelty bring them joy? Why do they lack empathy? How have they gotten so many to buy into obvious hypocrisy? Do they represent the future and the ultimate descent of humanity back to the caves? -- I don't know. But the near future is about to descend on us and I fear it's going to be an era of darkness.

(19,902 posts)Sure, some people are just born with faulty wiring, but when you look at the genealogy of dickhead Republicans you generally see a long line of them.

In some cases, they convince gullible people that they will prosper under Republican rule.
And to those who don't believe they'll ever prosper, they sell the concept of shared hatreds.

(54,242 posts)they believe in a social hierarchy based on fictions about men being better than women, whites being better than blacks, etc.
reality doesn't align with this. people are people, we all have our various strengths and weaknesses, and even if you can find certain tendencies among arbitrarily drawn subgroups in society, that doesn't shed much light on how to interact with actual individuals or how to conduct public policy.
reality is constantly giving them pushback. some individuals who don't tick every privilege box somehow keep outperforming, and some individuals who do keep lagging.
so they keep crying for hurdles to be put in the path of minorities and women, because they're ideology is based on privilege making a big difference in their lives. if their privilege won't prop them up, they want lack of privilege to really sock it to others.
and it's basically a religion to them, they simply can't adapt and change. so they double down in defiance and anger and resentment that the world isn't the way they wish it was.
if we weren't all suffering from their actions, it would be tragic. bottom line is that they're simply too stupid to realize how counter-productive their actions are. eventually, demographics will force this country to accept reasonable control by minorities and women. the bigots really should NOT be advocating a worldview based on privilege that will soon be handed over to others. equality and fairness would be a much better deal for white men in the long run. a hierarchical worldview will eventually bite us white men in the ass one day.

Which brings up the questions: Where is their ability to reason? What makes them so gullible? In short, why are Republicans such dicks?

(59,687 posts)Total focus on self.
No empathy or concern for others.
They are the only important people.
Addicted to power and money and will do anything to get it.
Rules and laws are for other people.
They are exempt.
They love cruelty, control, abuse of power.

Their whole ethos seems to be about I got mine the hard way, why cant you.
The instant their own family falters they are the first in line for those freebies that they decried for others.
All of this is passed down through generations.
Education is always the answer, but republicans are too scared of being exposed for what they are to want to allow anyone to get anywhere near the truth.

(52,356 posts)when I asked him what the GOP stands for.
I know they are filled with violence and hatred. They are liars. They are narcissists and sociopaths. They do not respect anything.
What I do NOT understand is why anyone would even want to join a group with that agenda. It boggles my mind.
I am a proud misanthrope now.
