(18,180 posts)Probably nothing that can be done about it. Perhaps something can be done with the libel laws or tort, but that is difficult as well since the platforms are exempt from the libel laws and torts against the platform will be difficult. Maybe some ability to sue platforms if they can't identify the actual originator of the content?

(630 posts)Yeah i agree. 1st amendment allows people to say whatever they want. We have groups actively using our constitution to undermine our country. This includes foreign enemies. There seems like there is nothing we can do. Its all protected by 1st amendment.
Republicans are using this. To their advantage.

(37,265 posts)To restrict certain types of speech (as is the case here at DU) they can do that. The problem here is that Musk and fellow owners don’t want to—they only restrict speech they don’t like, such as speech critical of Trump.
Someone here probably knows more about this than I do—hasn’t Congress been discussing ways to hold platform owners responsible for certain acts of participants? For example if you threaten a public official or suggest that it would good if others did, and someone acted on that, the platform owner would bear some responsibility.

(34,629 posts)Pro tip when I left last year? Log out and don't log back on. That way (for now) someone can't steal your profile. I'd bet that's why she's keeping hers.

(3,677 posts)It would be like saying “I’m surprised anyone is still watching Fox “News”.” These people aren’t seeing lies, propaganda and hate, they are seeing what they perceive as reality. This is their world. And I don’t know how we (as a society, that is) can break through that. It started with hate radio, which I’m sure is still a hugely influential, but is now way beyond that. I am still heartbroken and reeling from the idea that two obviously decent, kind and charismatic individuals like Tim and Kamala lost to a convicted felon and sexual predator.

(34,629 posts)Democrats. We only need a few people to report back.
I'm a believer that the American Magat is too wet to step on, and too low to kick. I want them to suffer. I will never unite with them until they clearly state:
I didn't care.
I'm a racist.
I'm an anti Semitic asshole.
I hate women.
I hate they LGBTQI community.
I wanted immigrants locked up in concentration camps.
We never had a reckoning after the Civil War because the South was not forced to suffer enough. If we don't make them suffer - their lost cause will rise again. And now - they are ALL over America. Yeah - they need to suffer before they can be reached.
I wouldn't be opposed to throwing those Registered as Republicans in 2024 off the Veterans Benefits rolls when they come back. Removal of SSDI, TANF, SNAP for five years when they come back.
See - they haven't been suffering. They believe they have, but they haven't. They need to suffer.

(34,629 posts)Insta person. Threads is a better experience for me, as I'm already having great discussions with people (us commoners) I've interacted with for years. Dollhouse Minis, Gnome, and luxury boutique hotel lovers tend to be pretty liberal.
Blusky seems to be built more for journalist influencers to peddle stories. Good to read but I don't engage.

Who owns it and why are they allowing terrorism, sedition, and propaganda against the US and it's citizens?
Oh yeah, we know who and why.

Attacking the messenger simply suggests that you lack substantive grounds for attacking the message.

(5,942 posts)This was disproven very early. However, major right wing social media personalities said, "No! Don't believe the media! The shooter was trans!" Over and over.
The shooter's boyfriend even came out and said the shooter was Cis. What did X / Twitter do? Tried to sabotage any opinions other than the lie and swarm any post with the truth with bots saying that the shooter was trans, complete with fake evidence.
They don't give a fuck about the truth. The entire point is getting a large enough chunk of people to discard reality and become useful idiots with a Pavlovian response to propaganda, no matter how ridiculous.
