Experts stunned by report of GOP rep allegedly found in dementia facility

Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX) had been "missing" for several months, before The Dallas Express staff writer Carlos Turcios reported Friday that the newspaper allegedly discovered the Republican lawmaker's whereabouts.

Turcios reported, "According to Ms. Granger’s roll call vote page, Grangers last vote was on July 24th, 2024," and when the newspaper tried contacting the Lone Star state lawmakers' Texas and DC offices, "calls went directly to voicemail where a recorded message from Congresswoman Granger plays."

Her office appears to be closed for good (she is retiring at the end of the session) with phone calls going unanswered and voice mails not returned.

The Dallas Express writer added that one of Granger's constituents claimed that she "has been residing at a local memory care and assisted living home for some time after having been found wandering lost and confused in her former Cultural District/West 7th neighborhood."

I was told here on DU just last week that "experience and seniority" were more important in a politician than ability.

Constituents contact their reps every day. Even if she gave orders this is that way it was to be, is that ethical? Not very responsible. The press should have noticed she wasn't voting. There's probably no way to remove from office for medical reasons, for a temp appt. by the Governor.

But I do believe in term limits and age limits. If you're in your 80's, step back and enjoy those final years in private life.

Apparently her constituents were not concerned with her disappearance .

From my perspective one less automatic Republican vote was fine.

But, jokes aside, the larger story here is ... How is this possible? What happened with this woman's colleagues - committee memberships - party leadership - and probably most critically, her staff? It seems almost certain that there are equal parts absolute dereliction - and at least some degree of cover-up.

But if I was a news organization in that area - I'd be going straight to leadership and saying, "What the hell went on here?!"

It is not plausible that nobody ever asked why she wasn't showing up to vote.

Don't have the energy to dig into congressional voting records just now, but sure am curious if there was an official proxy, or if the GOP House members just made up a vote for her because they needed the numbers.

Or there are issues where no one really cares if there is a missing vote etc.
She probably hasn't been voting and her vote wasn't needed etc.

She should have resigned, but she didn't. Unless they're relying on the member for specific votes, this is quite possible.

EDIT: I see her last vote was in July. But was she hidden away to maintain her seat instead of having a special election? Look for wrongdoing, not hypocrisy. We already know they’re hypocrites.
