Or should I say the cowards are winning. I say cowards because fear seems to be the dominant motivator for the Republicans. Fear of immigrants, fear of competition, fear of women, fear of change, fear of same sex love for each other, fear of education, fear of health mandates, fear of children learning true history, fear of books, fear of enlightenment. They want a bigger military, more law enforcement and more powerful guns. Fewer freedoms for everybody else. More laws to protect them from us and judges to ignore those laws when they break them. Minorities have had roadblocks after roadblocks to working within the system. Now that minorities are working within the system the rules are changed. You're are so desperate to have your voices heard you put the dumbest loudmouth clown in class to run the country. You just volunteered to be oppressed by the billionaire class. You think they're leading you out of the goodness of their heart. Because of your vote, we are all in the same boat now, but, your shipmates are really f....ing pissed and unforgiving. We are licking are wounds now but not forever. We will ALWAYS remember this betrayal of America. When this ugly chapter is over, you will be one of us, you just don't know it yet. We know how to live during tough times, we grew up with it. For some of us poverty and violence was a way of life, like breathing. I and people like me grew stronger from it. Survival of the fittest. Our Democrat's need to learn how to fight or get the f..ck out of the way. You politicians love to hear yourself talk, then start using your G'damn words. We need a hero.

(14,928 posts)This is a Democratic board. You said if Democrats can't fight they need to get out of the way. Your words.
My question, What Party do you see taking over? Who is your "hero"?

(58 posts)We have no room for the likes of Sinema, Manchin, Moulton of MA. I may have misspelled the last one. I know we're the big tent party and that's fine but those two Senators specifically were almost as bad as Tuberville. It was obvious Manchin had a personal grudge against President Biden, and Sinema was on a greedy ego trip. Good riddance to bad rubbish. So when I say get out of the way, I'm saying row together or at least don't row against the team. I encourage differences of opinion but not purely for your personal vendetta. Senator Sanders is a perfect example of that. Oh wait, wasn't he an independent that caucuses with Dems. unless he remained a Dem after the primary he ran in. You don't have to support the policies I support in order to earn my respect. I think AL Franken was unfortunately shown the door prematurely. I may not know all of the of the ins and outs of our political system but I'm more informed than the average voter. I do NOT advocate for another party but if your actions coincide with my desired political outcome, then you have my support and anybody else's I can convince. I watch what they do, not what they say. Who In the he'll in the Democratic party was responsible for OPPO research against Santos? That should have been an easy seat. All of that material happened to present itself right after he won. Somebody was slipping. I detest ineptitude.

(58 posts)For me, Country over party, always. Remember Dixiecrats? My Godfather was a Democratic Congressman for about 6 terms during the 80's and 90's. I loved and respected that man and everything he did right up until his second term at which time his words no longer represented his actions. I still loved him but DC chewed him up and spit him out a different man. A place holder, just a vote. School's and streets are named after him in the old neighborhood where I grew up. Before congress he was a scrapper getting things done on behalf of the downtrodden. He was a union shopsteward when I came into his life. He was my hero because of the man he was. Before he became a capable politician.

(13,005 posts)Capable leadership will do me just fine.
And, when people start talking about 'taking it to' the opposition ("learning how to fight".) - I'm always a little curious about what 'specifically' is meant by those words ...
Are we also thinking jailing political opponents .. ?

(58 posts)To me a hero in this situation is somebody in a position of influence, importance, authority and permission from the people that is willing and capable of doing what needs to be done to save our Democracy. Institutionaliists protect the institution. They have their place and will be needed to put the pieces back together. I embrace peace and a civilized society. My rhetoric is intended to serve two purposes. 1) to light a fire under that hero or heros, whomever that might be. My greatest strength is knowing my limitations and drawing from my experiences. 2) I'm speaking the non specific language of 47 and his ilk. Generalizations, no recording devices, NDA's no witnesses , why do you think that is? Nothing is actionable, until it is. I've known guys like him my whole life. Bullies are loud and threatening in order to scare off opposition before it becomes a threat. He's no different than some asshole trying to run his block except for the money given to him and our military he will once again be in charge of. I have more respect for the guys on the street because nobody gave them anything. Desperation was the key motivator. 47 has learned to use the courts to his advantage, much like John Gotti. This is not a time for handwringing and creating fear. Reality will take care of that. We can and will get knocked down the difference is what we do when we get back up. I felt knocked down for a few weeks after 11/5 but now I'm back up.
BTW, who said anything about jailing political opponents. Oh and Garner was thought of as capable. Some might of thought Munchkin and sneezy were capable Senators(leaders). See, I can make up nicknames too. Can I be president now. Have a great weekend.

(13,005 posts)being convinced that the cultishness, adulation, and fealty that almost always attends - presents at least as many problems as it might offer help.
(read here: hero figures and cults are inherently dangerous)
As for the rest - don't really need an update on 47's character and shortcomings ... Myself (and pretty much everyone else here) already got that memo. And, no, nicknames also don't really do too much for me.

(14,941 posts)would definitely agree with your last two sentences. Hes always saying they need to fight back, grow a spine.
When we first married, he was a very moderate republican. After living with me for a few years, he changed and became a democrat. He would never go back to being a republican, but we both get very frustrated with democratic leaders at times. The older democrats (the ones in their late seventies and eighties) need to let younger democrats take over. By the way, I am in my late sixties and my husband is in his early seventies.
