The article specifically states: "Granger had already announced her retirement at the end of this Congress.

Many of us who post stories, especially long ones pay extra attention to post the most relevant paragraphs, with a lot of "snips" in between.

Why read the posts here if we have to check the links?

That sentence of not running for re-elections was at the bottom of the relatively short story and the OP should have included it.

Um, because it pays to be better informed? Not every pertinent point can be quoted here. It's nice when the OP provides a link for those interested in actually getting the whole story.

Too often some here just post the links. I never click. If the OP was too lazy to provide a few relevant paragraphs then I am not going to do their work. Yes, my loss.

Most of us, who regularly post stories, myself included do take the time to include the relevant paragraphs, especially if the source is restricted like the WSJ, WaPO, NYT and others.

But copyright laws do limit what can be shared, and perhaps what you or I consider to be the MOST important portions do not match the OP's evaluation or views. The OP cannot read your mind, nor mine to tell what WE personally think is most relevant.

It's not like they do anything useful and their votes are pre programmed. Even the Freedumb Caucus. They just vote no on everything no matter what it is.

Has someone been voting for her?

Since July, there have been 182 votes and she's only cast 28. My guess is that most those votes were in the early session (around July) as she cast zero votes (out of 62) in the November/December sessions.

I'm not denying the veracity of this news but the Gateway Pundit sucks, as does the Dallas Express.

Kay Granger announced in October 2023 that she was retiring. Craig Goldman ran to replace her and won. He will be representing TX 12th in the upcoming 119th Congress.

It's wrong that Granger did not step down. It's wrong that her office and the entire GOP kept her dementia secret. However, Craig Goldman will be among the total GOP members of congress in the next session.

Yesterday, when I saw the story, I googled to see if better sources had it. One hit that came up was this House PR article. I kept thinking maybe I missed something or that the date was earlier. I then reread making sure it was written as if she was there. At this point, it is possible she is suffering from memory loss/dementia and her staff or family insured she made it to this ceremony.

I think she still was chair, which is very strange that she was not replaced in leadership. Even if she were just a backbencher her absence should have been questioned especially as the speaker had bills where he needed every vote he could get.

Something is very fishy here. I wonder if it is a trap for MSM if untrue. Saying that they trusted Gateway and other RW sites, the daily mail, and the daily beast are not good reasons for not investigating what should be a jaw dropping story.

Her son says that she's in an independent living facility, she has memory issues but she is not currently in memory care:

Her son's description is similar to many high end independent living places. It sounds like a nice place.

I hope there will be answers about both her DC and district offices. It sounds like the district one closed at the end of November. It sounds like constituent services may have stopped then. If the DC office was not active, you would think other Representatives would know, especially those in nearby offices.

I never expected to see Gateway Pundit, a site described by Wikipedia as "a far-right fake news website", founded and run by Jim Hoft, long notorious as "the dumbest man on the Internet", cited as a source on DU.

For all I know, its story this time may be accurate, but that would be an extreme rarity.

I don't think this place should be giving it clicks, especially when it seems there are plenty of other sources for this story.

I'd seriously question using Gateway Pundit as a source for anything. It's been notorious since 2004 for being pretty much the worst wingnut disinformation site in the USA, if not the world.
