https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/dec/21/curtis-yarvin-trumpCurtis Yarvin is hardly a household name in US politics. But the neoreactionary thinker and far-right blogger is emerging as a serious intellectual influence on key figures in Donald Trumps coming administration in particular over potential threats to US democracy.
Yarvin, who considers liberal democracy as a decadent enemy to be dismantled, is intellectually influential on vice president-elect JD Vance and close to several proposed Trump appointees. The aftermath of Trumps election victory has seen actions and rhetoric from Trump and his lieutenants that closely resemble Yarvins public proposals for taking autocratic power in America.
...
Yarvin suggests that a would-be American autocrat should campaign on and win an electoral mandate for an authoritarian program. They should purge the federal bureaucracy in a push Yarvin has anagrammatized as Rage (for retire all government employees).
They should simply ignore any court rulings that seek to constrain them. They should bring Congress to heel, in part by mobilizing their populist base against recalcitrant lawmakers. And liberal or mainstream media organizations and universities should be summarily closed..
He is calling for a "Caesar" to rule the US as an autocrat, eliminating any residue of liberal democracy. JD Vance has spoken very highly of him

(1,133 posts)Apparently, Vance really admires this guy. I read an article about him recently that had this passage:
In 2008, a software developer in San Francisco named Curtis Yarvin, writing under a pseudonym, proposed a horrific solution for people he deemed not productive: convert them into biodiesel, which can help power the Muni buses.
Yarvin, a self-described reactionary and extremist who was 35 years old at the time, clarified that he was just kidding. But then he continued, The trouble with the biodiesel solution is that no one would want to live in a city whose public transportation was fueled, even just partly, by the distilled remains of its late underclass. However, it helps us describe the problem we are trying to solve. Our goal, in short, is a humane alternative to genocide.
He then concluded that the best humane alternative to genocide is to virtualize these people: Imprison them in permanent solitary confinement where, to avoid making them insane, they would be connected to an immersive virtual-reality interface so they could experience a rich, fulfilling life in a completely imaginary world.

He is a very deranged man and is empowered by these tech oligarchs because they want to be dictators. I'm amazed when I listen to this guy talk because he has zero charisma, and his voice sounds very weird. I say this because usually it's people with great charisma and oratory that are the ones to push ideas on society where it's good or bad.

(150 posts)I'm starting to think some of these people that have achieved financial success or popularity at a young age may have done so without paying their dues. Without struggle how would you recognize empathy for others or the norms of living within a just society. IMHO, I would attribute much of it to the progress of computers. Don't get me wrong, it's not blame, just an observation. How many software engineers, bitcoin developers/traders, social influencers that have achieved financial success are under the age of 30 or 25. They've taken the ball and run with it. I applaud them. But, there is a responsibility to society. The society that allowed for that success. Now we have monsters of the universe that have money to buy politicians which gives them power over many. Greed, money, power, cruelty in that order. No rules, no moral compass. Ambition and success can be and should be good in the right hands. The guardrails no longer exist. The corrupt Supreme Court has given carte Blanche to the worst of us. The scales of justice have 6 thumbs holding it off balance. Justice will continue to evade us unless we get better political fighters working on our behalf.

(6,139 posts)Just because a plan like Project 2025 is in the open, does not make it JUST free speech. It is a plan to overthrow our government and should be crushed by the government.

(1,133 posts)If Trump and his minions follow through on what this maniac is proposing. In the Guardian article, Yarvin promotes the following, "They should simply ignore any court rulings that seek to constrain them. They should bring Congress to heel, in part by mobilizing their populist base against recalcitrant lawmakers. And liberal or mainstream media organizations and universities should be summarily closed.
Given the post-election period and Trumps preparation for a return to the White House, Yarvins program seems less fanciful then it did in 2021, when he laid it out for Anton.
Midway through their conversation, Anton says to Yarvin, Youre essentially advocating for someone to age-old move gain power lawfully through an election, and then exercise it unlawfully, adding: What do you think the actual chances of that happening are?
Yarvin responded: It wouldnt be unlawful, adding: Youd simply declare a state of emergency in your inaugural address.
Yarvin continued: Youd actually have a mandate to do this. Where would that mandate come from? It would come from basically running on it, saying, Hey, this is what were going to do.
Throughout the 2024 campaign, Trump promised to carry out a wide array of anti-democratic or authoritarian moves, and effectively ran on these promises. Trump has suggested he might declare a state of emergency in response to Americas immigration crisis."
